Polymer additives are important for stabilization in manufacturing process and stabilization over time. This application note shows the analysis of selected a process, UV and oxidation stabilizers widely used in polymers. The samples are extracted under reflux and after polymer precipitation, the additives are analyzed by HPLC. The results are essential for quality control.
ABSTRACT
Determination of process, UV and oxidation stabilizers in polymers – Irganox 3114, Tinuvin 328, Irganox 1010, Irganox 1330, Irgaphos 168 in the phosphate and phosphite form and Irganox 1076, with Tinuvin P as internal standard – on an ARION® Plus C18 HPLC column, 5 µm (150 mm × 4.6 mm, ARI-5720-LK46). Gradient elution with A: AcN:EtAc 50:50 (v/v) and B: MeOH/H2O 75:25 (v/v) at 0.8 ml/min and 40 °C, UV detection at 270 nm. Samples are extracted under reflux and measured after polymer precipitation; the application shows two standard mixtures and a real sample. Note: this method was shortened – the initial mobile phase ratio was held for 1 minute only. This application was developed by ORLEN PIB, Polymer Institute Brno.
