The HPLC/UV method has been optimized for the degradation assessment of calcium channel blocker diltiazem. The photochemical degradation kinetics of this benzodiazepine structure is studied in aqueous solution.
ABSTRACT
HPLC/UV method for assessing the photochemical degradation of the calcium channel blocker diltiazem (CAS 42399-41-7) in aqueous solution, on an ARION® Plus C18, 5.0 µm column (150 mm × 3.0 mm, ARI-5720-LK30). Isocratic elution with 6 mM ammonium acetate in water/methanol 30/70 (v/v) at 1.0 ml/min and 30 °C, injection volume 20 µl, UV detection at 240 nm. Diltiazem and one related degradation product are resolved within about 3 minutes. Developed by the University of South Bohemia in České Budějovice.
