Ergot alkaloids
INTRODUCTION
Ergot alkaloids are mitotoxins produced by several species of fungies. Many different cereals may become contaminated with ergot alkaloids that cause poisoning in human and animals is known as ergotism. Despite on actions taken in agricultural practice for grain purification, control of the ergot alkaloids is still actual taking into account the low toxicological limits of these mitotoxins.
ABSTRACT
Gradient HPLC/UV separation of eight ergot alkaloids – ergosine (CAS 561-94-4), ergotamine (CAS 113-15-5), ergosinine (CAS 596-88-3), ergocristine (CAS 511-08-0), ergostine (CAS 2854-38-8), ergotaminine (CAS 639-81-6), ergostinine (CAS 3268-95-9) and ergocristinine (CAS 511-07-09) – on an ASTRA® C18-HE, 3.0 µm column (100 mm × 3.0 mm, AST-5732-II30). Gradient elution with A: 10 mM buffer (pH 7.0) and B: ACN at 0.75 ml/min and 30 °C, injection volume 3 µl, UV detection at 310 nm. All eight alkaloids are resolved within about 11 minutes.
