Calcium is found naturally in the body and is necessary for the normal function of muscles and nerves. It is needed to make the heart work properly and for blood to clot. In injections it is used in the form of calcium gluconate salt. The presented method shows the in-process control of calcium gluconate and stabylizer calcium saccharate in injection solution.
ABSTRACT
Isocratic HPLC/UV method for the in-process control of calcium gluconate (CAS 299-28-5) and the stabilizer calcium saccharate (CAS 5793-88-4) in injection solution, on an ASTRA® Diol, 3.0 µm column (150 mm × 4.6 mm, AST-5858-IK46). Mobile phase ACN : water 90/10 (v/v) + 0.05 % H3PO4 (pH = 2.5), flow rate 1.0 mL/min, temperature 20 °C, injection volume 10 µL, UV detection at 230 nm with reference correction at 250 nm. Calcium saccharate elutes at about 4.2 min and calcium gluconate at about 6.8 min.
