Ceramides are a family of fatty acids molecules. They play a role in skin's barrier function and also promote brain development and maintain cell function. They are widely used as a moisturizer in various cosmetic and personal products. The application shows a sensitive LC/MS method for fast determination of diverse group of ceramides.
ABSTRACT
Sensitive LC-MS/MS method for the fast determination of a diverse group of molecular ceramides (C14:0 to C26:0), on an ARION® C18 Plus, 2.2 µm column (50 mm × 2.1 mm, ARI-5720-EG21). Gradient elution with A: 50 mM ammonium acetate in water + 0.1% formic acid and B: 50 mM ammonium acetate in isopropanol/ACN (4:3) + 0.1% formic acid at 300 µL/min and 40 °C, injection volume 10 µL, MS/MS detection (qualifier transitions to m/z 264). All ceramides elute between about 7.4 and 11.5 minutes. This method was developed by Mgr. Tomáš Oždian, PhD. (Palacký University Olomouc).
